A raid is a wave of accounts joining a server at once to spam channels, mass-ping members or post abuse. The accounts are usually created in batches, so they tend to be brand new, have no avatar, and share similar usernames.
Moderators can't keep up with dozens of accounts arriving in seconds. Discord raid protection spots the burst as it happens and lets staff shut the door fast.
Anti-raid vs anti-nuke
/antiraid
Watches for lots of accounts joining at once. Alerts staff, who choose how to respond.
/antinuke
Watches what accounts inside the server do with their permissions. Can stop them automatically.
How Sentry detects raids
Detection is a count of joins in a time window. Once a burst is found, Sentry looks at several signals together, not only account age, so staff can tell a raid from a growth spike.
- 1
Members start joining
New accounts arrive through an invite link or your vanity URL.
- 2
Sentry counts the joins
Sentry counts every join within your time window, as it happens.
- 3
The threshold is passed
By default, 10 accounts within 10 seconds opens an incident.
- 4
Evidence is gathered
Every account in the window is included, not only the one that crossed the line.
- 5
One alert goes to staff
The card posts in your alert channel and pings your staff role. New joins update the same card.
- 6
Staff decide
Nothing happens to anyone until an administrator presses a button.
Suspicious account analysis
Each alert carries the numbers a moderator needs to make a call quickly. These are heuristics: they show how raid-like a burst looks, not proof that any one account is malicious.
New account detection
How many accounts in the burst are under a week old. Batches of fresh accounts are the clearest sign of a raid.
Account age insights
The median account age across the burst, so one old account can't hide a wave of new ones.
Missing avatar detection
How many joining accounts never set a profile picture.
Username pattern analysis
Sentry strips the digits from each username and groups what's left, so names like user8821 and user4417 show up as one pattern.
Accounts created together
When every account was created within a day of the others, the card says how tightly they cluster.
Grouped incident reports
One card per raid, not one per account. It lists the first 10 usernames and keeps updating as more join.
Raid confidence assessment
Sentry sums up the signals in one line at the top of the card, and colors the card to match. The more signals match, the higher the rating. Nothing acts on this rating; it only helps staff decide.
Emergency raid response, controlled by your moderators
Detection is automatic. The response is yours. Every action below is a button on the alert, and the card updates to show who pressed it and what happened.
Stop new joins
The best first move. Stops anyone new from joining, with nobody banned. Only available on Community servers. Turn invites back on in Server Settings → Invites.
Lock the server
Stops @everyone from sending messages in every text channel Sentry can manage. Sentry saves the list of channels it changed.
/antiraid unlockRestore locked channels
Reopens exactly the channels the lockdown changed. Channels that were already locked stay locked.
Kick or ban suspected raiders
Removes up to 100 accounts from the incident, each with a moderation case. Skips the owner, exempt accounts and anyone above Sentry.
Dismiss false positives
Closes the alert with no action when the burst was genuine. Needs Ban Members.
Why Sentry never bans on its own
A server that just got a shout-out looks almost exactly like one being raided. An alert nobody needed costs a few seconds. Dozens of wrongful bans cost you members.
Pause Invites, Lock Server, Kick All and Ban All need Administrator.
What you'll see in your server
/antiraid status shows the threshold, where alerts go, who gets pinged, and who is exempt.
/antiraid unlock restores exactly these.
How to set up Sentry anti-raid
Anti-raid is on as soon as Sentry joins. It only needs somewhere to send alerts. Everything is done with slash commands.

What anti-raid can't do
-
It doesn't act on its own
Raiders stay in the server until an administrator presses a button. That is deliberate, but someone has to see the alert.
-
It counts bursts, not accounts
A slow trickle of bad accounts that never passes your threshold won't open an incident.
-
Role order matters
Kick All and Ban All skip the server owner, exempt accounts and anyone whose role is above Sentry's.
-
Bulk actions have a ceiling
Kick All and Ban All cover the first 100 accounts in an incident. The card says how many were left out.
01Is Sentry's Discord anti-raid bot free?
Yes. Sentry has no paid tier or subscription. Raid detection, alerts, lockdown and every response button are available to every server.
02How can I protect my Discord server from raids?
Add Sentry and give it an alert channel with /antiraid config, pinging a role your moderators watch. Keep Sentry's role above the roles new members get. When an alert arrives, pause invites or lock the server first, then decide whether to remove the accounts.
03How does Sentry detect mass-join raids?
It counts joins in a time window. By default, 10 accounts joining within 10 seconds opens an incident. Every account in that window is included, and accounts that keep arriving are added to the same alert.
04Does Sentry automatically ban suspected raiders?
No. Sentry detects the raid and alerts staff automatically, but nobody is kicked or banned until an administrator presses Kick All or Ban All.
05Can Sentry lock a Discord server during a raid?
Yes. Lock Server stops @everyone from sending messages in every text channel Sentry can manage. /antiraid unlock restores exactly those channels.
06Can I customize Sentry's anti-raid detection settings?
Yes. /antiraid config sets the number of joins (3–100), the window (5–600 seconds), the alert channel and the role to ping. /antiraid exempt protects trusted roles and members from bulk actions.
07What's the difference between anti-raid and anti-nuke?
Anti-raid watches for many accounts joining at once and leaves the response to your staff. Anti-nuke watches what accounts already in the server do with their permissions, and can stop them automatically.
